Some stories just won't let go and this is one of those. Smallville managed to create an overarching story that lasted over a decade from the perspective of the residents on a single town farm. This show was really about all those small towns across America as it documents their struggles, failures, dreams and some might say, salvation. As Superman would enter our lives as a character in some form or another, he is brought into our reality with the perspective of an outsider looking for hope for these people that live on his home turf. The show began with Clark Kent, who had left Smallville after his high school graduation to figure out what he wanted to do with himself. He didn't know that destiny was about to open up the doors of his long dead home town and give him a chance not only to solve the mystery of himself but also to help all those people that were stuck in the struggle of daily living. As he became Superman he also became their champion in defending this city against all evil. The show's ability to strike a balance between earth bound realism and over indulgence in superhero tropes is why it became so popular. These characters were real people, who had lived real lives. With their struggles, triumphs and sometimes failure they created a new concept of what this genre could be. As the show progressed, Clark's core love interest became Lois Lane. The show built up her character as an independent woman who wasn't afraid to take on the world with her journalism skills. A relationship between these two was always brewing underneath all the superpowers flying around Smallville and made its way to the screen in many ways over the years. Their relationship was strengthened with each passing season as Clark learned how to balance his civilian life without losing his heart to his purpose of being Superman on Planet Earth. Lois had always been a great character, but she grew so much from Season 1 to Season 8. She turned from a cheater to a one man's gal who only cared about him and stood by his side as he became the beacon of hope for all those that needed it. If there was one stand out performer in the show it would be Tom Welling as Clark Kent/Superman who played the character with such passion and sincerity. He never once came across as arrogant and true to all those needs he needed to fulfill in order to remain human and honest about what he wanted out of life. This is what made this man such a great hero. He stands up for what is right and will do whatever it takes to accomplish his goal even if it puts him in harm's way for the greater good. Tom also had great chemistry with his on screen love interest, Kristin Kreuk who played Lana Lang. There are many stand out performances in the show that deserve credit for doing what was asked of them with honesty and integrity. John Schneider who played Jonathan Kent was brilliant in the part of the nurturing father, while Michael Rosenbaum who played Lex Luthor was a delight to watch as a truly evil man. They could both be funny while also being very dark and twisted when it came to their personal revenge missions against each other. cfa1e77820
